Hats for Newborns Campaign
It takes a village to raise a child. Birth Fest aims to help local women and families create or become connected to their village. This year we would like to grow our village globally. We are partnering with Circle of Health International (www.cohintl.org) to raise awareness about maternal and newborn health world-wide. Our idea is to ask YOU, community members, birth fest exhibitors, local craftivist and health care providers who take part in Birth Fest to make hats that fit newborns, by sewing or knitting them, to be sent to a country or program where a small, low cost intervention of keeping a baby warm could make all the difference in the world. We know we can mobilize a huge number of people in the community to do this!
We ask all participants to consider putting up a “Birth Fest Clothesline” in their school, place of business, home, etc. to display the hats as they are created so that each person they encounter has a chance to be educated on maternal/newborn health (we can even supply you with relevant websites or brochures to pass along).
On the day of the festival our goal is to erect an enormous clothesline filled with newborn hats that surrounds the entire park!! The hats to an organization on the ground who can distribute them in an appropriate way. We also ask that you consider donating money to help this organization continue their important work, improving the lives of women and children around the world!
Consider starting a knitting club at school or at work on your lunch hour…host a knitting circle or sewing bee at your home and enjoy the great company of your friends at the same time!
